Roux Carré is an accelerator for emerging food‐preneurs and a showcase for up-and-coming performing and visual artists. A project of Good Work Network, Roux Carré is dedicated to preserving the culture of the Central City community and to serving those who have created and sustained it. The food vendors represent African American, Caribbean, and Latin American influences on New Orleans culture and include: Estralita’s Express, Johnny’s Jamaican Grill,The Pupusa Lady, and Diva Dawg.

It is located at 2000 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.

Roux Carré promotes community development by:

  • providing a low-cost, low-overhead means of market entry for aspiring food service businesses
  • establishing a unique, culturally grounded gathering space
  • creating jobs for low-income individuals
  • bringing vacant property in a low-income neighborhood back into commerce in a way that honors its culturally and historically rich location.

In line with Good Work Network’s mission, preference has been given to minority- and women-owned vendors. These preferred vendors have received food service and retail training, back-office assistance, small business coaching, and entrepreneurial wrap-around support from Good Work Network.

We believe this project is meaningful and significant to a neighborhood and community which for many years has suffered from divestment, crime, and blight.  In returning this square to commerce, we envision this space as an embodiment of the concepts of revival, inclusion and diverse cultural vibrancy.  In a city with a history of racial and class divides, New Orleans’ cultural and culinary traditions have long been the common ground.  Our food court project draws inspiration from this rich tradition and aspires to become a place where the strong African American, Caribbean, and Latin American influences on the New Orleans culture are celebrated by all.
