estralitaEstralita Soniat has been in the Food Service Industry over 35 years, managing restaurants and eventually opening her own café in Westwego. Her passion for cooking and inspiration came from Al Copeland with whom she worked for many years. He finally convinced her to open her own restaurant in January 1991. She has owned and operated Estralita’s Cafe/ Carryout located at 1022 Westbank Expressway in Westwego, LA for the past 24 years. Estralita’s has long been known as “The Little place with the BIG Taste”.

Despite her relative success in Westwego, Estralita has long dreamed of opening a location in New Orleans which was a huge investment for a small restaurateur. Then she heard about Roux Carré, a project of Good Work Network. In furtherance of its mission, Good Work Network developed the site on Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. to give emerging food entrepreneurs an opportunity to open a location without a massive capital investment. The site hosts a shared commercial kitchen, a covered outdoor seating area, five fully equipped vendor pods, a small stage, and parking. Estralita recognized this as the opportunity she had been waiting for. She was one of 87 applicants for the spots at Roux Carré. With the help of several notable local chefs and restaurant owners, Good work Network was able to select five outstanding food entrepreneurs.

Estralita’s experience, knowledge, and just plain good food won her one of the spots at Roux Carré. Estralita’s Express opened in November 2015. You have to try the seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, po’ boys and mini-pies. And that’s just part of the menu at Estralita’s Express. Her home-cooked style of food is always prepared with Love and Louisiana flavors as their main ingredients. Stop by and visit Estralita’s Roux Carré soon!
